Global Pop Girls Scout — August 2026

The read

I filtered for artists who are not fake-unknown. The floor was roughly 15k Spotify monthly listeners, but the real sweet spot was 80k–900k: big enough that the songs have an audience, small enough that you could plausibly be early. I also included a few just over 1M when the sound or geography made them useful for discovery. I cut the obvious new-mainstream names even when X was screaming about them.

My conclusion: the best drawer right now is not “bedroom pop girls.” It is small-to-mid pop acts with one of four edges: UK dance-pop, Latin alt-pop, diaspora R&B-pop, or regional scenes where Spotify undercounts how real the local audience is.

1. Chloe Qisha — UK / Malaysia, polished alt-pop

• Listener evidence: Spotify result shows 829.9k monthly listeners; BBC reported she had more than 700k in 2025.
• Why she fits: already too clean to feel like a random upload, but not yet culturally saturated. The sound sits between glossy UK pop, cheeky alt-pop and radio-ready songwriting.
• Best use: if you want the “future opening slot for a big pop tour” lane.
• Caution: she may be the fastest to become not-early anymore.

2. Alessi Rose — UK, diaristic Y2K guitar-pop

• Listener evidence: Spotify result shows 395.7k monthly listeners; Viberate and ChartMasters are around 395k.
• Why she fits: teenage/early-20s melodrama, crunchy pop guitars, bratty but not empty. A real pop-girl nucleus rather than vague indie wallpaper.
• Best use: if you want hooks, personality and fanbase momentum without the major-star problem.

3. EMJAY — Mexico, “Pop Pesado” / Latin alt-pop

• Listener evidence: Spotify result shows 499k monthly listeners; X fan-stat accounts had her around 522k–545k; ChartMasters shows around 544.5k.
• Why she fits: Mexican pop with sharper production choices than the clean Disney-to-Latin-pop pipeline. The fan language around her is unusually useful: people are not only saying “she is rising,” they are saying she sounds less generic.
• Best use: Latin pop discovery that is still pop, not just urban crossover.

4. piri — UK, dance-pop / DnB / UKG-adjacent

• Listener evidence: Spotify result shows 900.4k monthly listeners; PastSpot shows about 902k; Music Metrics Vault shows about 876k.
• Why she fits: this is the most directly relevant to all vars. The writing is light, but the rhythmic world is much closer to club music than most “rising pop girl” lists.
• Best use: reference for pop hooks that still understand dance-floor swing.
• Caution: already pretty discovered inside UK dance-pop circles.

5. Jae Stephens — US, R&B-pop with actual pop framing

• Listener evidence: Spotify result shows 535k monthly listeners; Music Metrics Vault shows about 486k; Viberate shows about 504k.
• Why she fits: better than the generic “alt R&B girl” bucket. There is image, hook sense, and enough polish to feel scalable.
• Best use: if the target is sleek, warm, stylish R&B-pop rather than Tumblr gloom.

6. Alemeda — East African diaspora / US-alt-pop lane

• Listener evidence: Spotify result shows 281.9k monthly listeners; Music Metrics Vault shows about 422.6k; Chartmetric shows 363.6k.
• Why she fits: guitar-pop and alt-pop with harder edges, more attitude than most of the soft-pop field.
• Best use: discovering pop girls who could cross between indie-rock kids and pop listeners.
• Caution: public listener counts vary across tools; use the range, not the exact number.

7. yunè pinku — London electronic-pop

• Listener evidence: Spotify result shows 139.6k monthly listeners; Viberate shows about 139k. Older event pages claimed she was near 750k, so the current number appears lower than past peaks.
• Why she fits: this is a production-first pick. She is not trying to be a main pop girl in the normal sense; she is a whispery electronic songwriter with club-world credibility.
• Best use: if you want a bridge between pop vocals and late-night electronic records.

8. Sam Quealy — Paris/Australia art-pop / electro-pop

• Listener evidence: Spotify result shows 183.3k monthly listeners; Viberate shows 183.3k.
• Why she fits: theatrical, stylish, weird enough to be useful. Less “future Sabrina,” more fashion-week club-pop oddball.
• Best use: taste expansion. The visuals and persona matter here.

9. YULLOLA — experimental electronic-pop

• Listener evidence: Spotify result shows 116.1k monthly listeners.
• Why she fits: fragile vocal melodies inside electronic production, closer to Oklou/Eartheater/club-adjacent art-pop than normal playlist pop.
• Best use: texture and mood references for intimate electronic songs.
• Caution: not a broad-pop pick; keep it in the weird drawer.

10. Nailah Blackman — Trinidad, soca-pop / Caribbean pop

• Listener evidence: Spotify result shows 285.3k monthly listeners; ChartMasters shows about 328.7k.
• Why she fits: global pop research usually underweights the Caribbean unless an artist breaks through a North American filter. She has real audience scale and a rhythm language most Anglophone pop lists ignore.
• Best use: if you want female pop vocals with carnival movement rather than TikTok bedroom melancholy.

11. Kold AF — Nigeria, Afropop / R&B-pop

• Listener evidence: Spotify result shows 144.6k monthly listeners.
• Why she fits: still small enough to count as early, but comfortably above the “1,000 listeners and a dream” floor.
• Best use: African pop bench beyond the already-huge Ayra/Tyla/Tems lane.

12. Natanya — UK, polished R&B-pop / soul-pop

• Listener evidence: Spotify result shows 331.4k monthly listeners; ChartMasters shows around 355k; Music Metrics Vault shows around 230k.
• Why she fits: careful songwriting, warm vocal tone, grown-person musicality. Not the most explosive pick, but a good quality-control name.
• Best use: if you want pop-R&B that is tasteful without disappearing into coffee-shop haze.

Regional bench

UK / Europe

• Chloe Qisha — 829.9k. Strongest overall “you could still be early” pick.
• Alessi Rose — 395.7k. Most obvious young-fanbase pop-girl pick.
• piri — 900.4k. Best dance-pop fit.
• yunè pinku — 139.6k. Electronic-pop, cooler than commercial.
• Sam Quealy — 183.3k. Art-pop / club-fashion lane.
• Natanya — 331.4k. R&B-pop, quality songwriter lane.
• Phoebe Green — 25.6k. Borderline smaller, but above your floor and worth checking if you want UK indie-pop with room to grow.
• Erin LeCount — evidence is messy: older coverage had 15.8k, later coverage says 109k, TikTok chatter claims 1M. Worth listening, but I would not cite a current count without a direct Spotify check.

Cut from this run: Sienna Spiro is exploding at 29M; Olivia Dean is already huge; Adéla is interesting but at about 5.6M, so she is not the assignment.

Latin America / Caribbean

• EMJAY — 499k–545k range. Best Latin pick in the target band.
• Karol Sevilla — around 688k by Viberate; ChartMasters has lower monthly-listener change figures, but the artist is clearly above the floor. More commercial and actress-adjacent, less musically surprising.
• Maia Reficco — 89k. Argentine-American pop/TV crossover; not the freshest sound, but the count and region make her useful.
• Nailah Blackman — 285k–329k range. Best Caribbean rhythm pick.

Cut or downgraded: Kim Loaiza is near/over 1M and more influencer-pop than discovery; Aitana, Bad Gyal, Emilia, Young Miko and the obvious Latin chart names are too big.

Africa / diaspora

• Alemeda — roughly 282k–423k depending on source. Strong alt-pop pick.
• Kold AF — 144.6k. Good Nigeria lane.
• lordkez — 276.6k now, although past South African press says she crossed 1M during the “Aweh” run. Current Spotify snippet puts her back in the target range.
• KABEAUSHÉ — 18.8k. I am not placing this in the main pop-girl list because the gender/positioning does not cleanly match the ask, but the sound is worth checking if you want Kenyan experimental pop above the floor.

Cut: Amaarae is excellent but at about 5M; Ayra Starr, Tyla and Tems are not discovery.

Asia-Pacific / Asian diaspora

• Chloe Qisha — British-Malaysian, 829.9k. Best crossover pick.
• Luna Li — 315.9k. Korean-Canadian indie-pop; prettier and less club-facing.
• Alice Longyu Gao — 142.1k. Chinese hyperpop/electro-pop; volatile, maximal, useful as an edge case.
• putri dahlia — 1.5M. Bigger than the ideal range, but still useful for Malaysian pop/R&B context.
• thủy — 1.8M. Vietnamese-American R&B-pop; a bit too big, but relevant if you want polished Asian-diaspora pop writing.
• YULLOLA — 116.1k. Electronic-art-pop pick.

Cut: BINI, NIKI, Idgitaf, Nadin Amizah and the big SEA streaming acts are real, but they are not unknown/upcoming by your standard.

North America

• hemlocke springs — 472k by Music Metrics Vault. Quirky synth-pop with a real cult.
• Jae Stephens — 535k. Best R&B-pop pick.
• chlothegod — 88.5k. Alt/R&B-pop, more left-field and currently still small.
• Sofia Isella — around 1M. Bigger and more theatrical; include only if you want dark-pop intensity.
• SadBoi — 395k by Spotify result for the main artist page; more R&B/hip-hop-adjacent than pure pop.

The audition order

If you only have 45 minutes, do this:

That gives you the real map: glossy alt-pop, young UK guitar-pop, Mexican edge, dance-pop, R&B-pop, diaspora alt-pop, electronic-pop, Caribbean movement, art-club, African pop.

The actual pattern

The useful finds were not hidden because nobody listens. They were hidden because the usual discovery systems sort badly. Pop outlets over-index on whoever is already at 5M–50M monthly listeners. Indie lists over-index on artists too small or too diffuse to matter. The productive zone is between those two: 100k–900k, visible enough to have signal, not yet flattened into consensus.

The most actionable lane for your taste is probably piri / yunè pinku / YULLOLA / Sam Quealy, because it touches dance music without turning into DJ-tool anonymity. The most commercially legible lane is Chloe Qisha / Alessi Rose / Jae Stephens. The best “around the world, not just LA/London” lane is EMJAY / Nailah Blackman / Kold AF.
